Elevate Your Backyard Entertainment in Hilo, Hawaii
When it comes to backyard entertainment, having the right electrical setup can transform your outdoor space into an inviting oasis for friends and family. At Hirayama Brothers Electric, we believe that your backyard should be more than just a place to grill burgers. It should be a versatile space where you can host parties, relax with loved ones, and enjoy the beautiful Hawaiian evenings. Here are some ideas and tips on how to enhance your backyard entertainment experience.

1. Outdoor Lighting: Set the Mood
Outdoor lighting is crucial for creating the perfect ambiance. Whether you’re planning a quiet evening under the stars or a lively get-together, the right lighting can set the mood. Consider these options
  • String Lights: These are perfect for adding a magical touch to any backyard. They’re versatile, easy to install, and create a warm, inviting glow.
  • Pathway Lights: These lights not only enhance the safety of your backyard by illuminating walkways but also add a touch of elegance.
  • Spotlights: Use spotlights to highlight key features of your backyard, such as a beautiful tree, a water feature, or your favorite garden art.

2. Outdoor Kitchens: The Heart of Backyard Entertaining
An outdoor kitchen can be the centerpiece of your backyard. It allows you to cook and entertain at the same time, ensuring you never miss out on the fun. Here’s how you can power up your outdoor kitchen:
  • Grill Stations: Ensure your grill is properly wired and has sufficient power to handle all your BBQ needs. Consider adding outlets for electric grills or smokers.
  • Refrigerators and Beverage Coolers: Keep drinks and perishables cold without the need to run back and forth to the indoor kitchen. Make sure these appliances are properly connected to a reliable power source.
  • Lighting: Adequate lighting is essential for evening cookouts. Task lighting around prep areas and ambient lighting for dining spaces can make your outdoor kitchen functional and inviting.

3. Entertainment Systems: Bring the Party Outside
Enhance your backyard gatherings with a top-notch entertainment system. Here’s how you can create an outdoor entertainment hub
  • Sound Systems: Install weather-resistant speakers around your backyard to ensure music can be heard clearly in all areas. Consider a wireless system for easy control.
  • Televisions: An outdoor TV can be a game-changer for sports fans and movie lovers. Make sure it’s installed in a shaded area to avoid glare and that it’s designed to withstand the elements.
  • Wi-Fi Extenders: If your home Wi-Fi doesn’t reach your backyard, consider installing extenders. This way, you can stream music, movies, and even host virtual gatherings with ease.

4. Fire Features: Warm Up the Evening
Fire features can add warmth and a cozy atmosphere to your backyard. Here are some options:
  • Fire Pits: Perfect for gatherings on cool evenings, fire pits provide warmth and a focal point for conversation.
  • Outdoor Fireplaces: An outdoor fireplace can be a stunning addition to your backyard. It’s ideal for larger spaces and can double as a cooking area.
  • Gas Heaters: For a more controlled and cleaner source of heat, consider gas heaters. They can be strategically placed around seating areas to keep guests comfortable.

5. Safety First: Electrical Considerations
When enhancing your backyard with electrical features, safety should always be a priority. Here are some safety tips:
  • Hire a Professional: Always hire a licensed electrician to handle outdoor electrical installations. This ensures that all work is up to code and safe.
  • Weatherproofing: Ensure all outdoor outlets and fixtures are weatherproof. This protects them from the elements and reduces the risk of electrical hazards.
  • Regular Maintenance: Regularly inspect your outdoor electrical systems for any signs of wear and tear. Replace any damaged components immediately to prevent accidents.

At Hirayama Brothers Electric, we are dedicated to helping you create the perfect backyard entertainment space. From lighting and outdoor kitchens to entertainment systems and fire features, our team of experts is here to ensure your backyard is both functional and beautiful. Dimmer switches in the bathroom are a great way to lighten up when you want that cheery sunshine mood or dim down for peaceful and meditative times of the day. Put them in the kitchen, your bedroom, and the dining hall. They are great in hallways too, especially for a low-light evening effect.

Solar Panels: Sunshine is money

Solar Panel Electrician Hilo HI
Wouldn't it be great to open your electric bill and see that the energy provider owes you money instead of the other way around? That's what thousands of people are experiencing as a result of adding a solar array to their home or rental property. Energy independence is another hedge against inflation. It's no secret that costs for energy are on the rise and will continue to rise in the foreseeable future. Energy providers purchase energy from solar customers at market rates. As market rates increase, so does the value of solar power. It is reasonable to think that adding solar will reduce or eliminate energy costs while adding value to your property. Let's say you have added solar and it is offsetting $150-$300 per month in electricity costs. That savings equates to up to $70,000 in borrowing power on a 30 year mortgage. That could have a dramatic effect on the selling price of a house and more than offset the initial investment of installation. Combine that with current tax benefits and you have a genuine investment that has both immediate and long-term benefits.

Motion sensor lights

How motion detectors work?

Motion detectors are small electronic eyes that detect infrared waves. When the detector senses an object moving across its field of view it electronically turns on the lights. The motion sensing light stays on anywhere from 1 to 20 minutes, depending on how you preset the timer. Then the detector automatically shuts the light off unless it continues to sense movement. A photocell deactivates the motion sensing light during daylight hours. A motion sensored light has a semicircular field of view of up to 240 degrees and a distance range that extends to 70 ft. An outdoor motion sensor light will react to the movement of your dog or an approaching person iff you choose to install one.

If nuisance trips concern you, be sure to buy a light that has an adjustable distance/range setting, and an aimable detector unit.

An outdoor motion sensor light allows you to operate the light in the conventional, manual way, usually by flipping the motion sensor light switch off for a second, then back on. This allows you to keep the motion lights on at night when you want to, even when there’s no motion. By double flipping a second time, you return to automatic motion sensing lighting.
